Gamecock Sports

Many of us Gamecock fans pride ourselves on sports. Here's some info about my favorites:

FOOTBALL

This year the Gamecock's came out strong winning 6 of their first seven, beating UGA, with their only loss being to LSU. Sadly, after this strong start, things just stopped. With a 6-6 finish, the season was nothing short of horrible. Looking back, we played decent though. I'll highlight some facts.

  • USC averaged 26.1 Points Per Game while their opponents averaged 23.5
  • USC Rushed for 1364 yard, but let opponents rush for 2511 yards
  • We averaged 3.6 yards per rush
  • USC had 16 Rushing touchdowns and gave up 19 Rusing touchdowns.
  • USC Passed for 3098 yards and help their opponents to 2025 yards
  • 443 Passes were thrown for 258 Completions, 17 Interceptions, and 20 Touchdown
  • We fumbled the ball 23 times, 11 times the ball was lost
  • We had 69 penalties for 532 yards, an average of 44.3 yards per game!
  • 3rd and 4th down conversion percentages were 35% and 47% respectively
  • We scored 86% of the time from inside the redzone, but only 64% of the time was it a touchdown

So what is their to say. While on paper it says we outscored the opponents on average, it wasn't enough to finished with an above .500 record. Next ear we need to have a more balanced offense and hold onto the ball! Those penalties certainly didnt help us one bit. Hopefully the baseball team can do better for us this year!

BASEBALL

Ah, America's past time. USC has always had a good baseball team, lets hope this year isnt different! So far we're 4 games into the season with a 3-1 record, beating East Carolina University twice and UNC-Asheville once and a loss to East Carolina University. Good Luck guys! Win the College World Series

BASKETBALL

Definately not my favorite sport, but I'll follow it as best I can. Feel free to email me if I miss information or you have something I should add. I would be more into it if the team could perform better, but as with football, this year has been a disapointment. Currently 12-15 (4-9 in the SEC) the team has had a mediocore year. Coming up is an away game, at Auburn on March 1 at 6pm. The final home game of the year is March 5 against Kentucky at 7pm. The final game of the year is March 9th at Tennessee. The SEC Tournament begins in Atlanta, GA on March 13, but with how we've been playing our seasons over. All that can be said is hopefully a new young class will come in and give this team a fresh start.
